Note:
Paul Olivier was a planter and plantation owner. The Succession of Paul
Olivier LeBlanc, recorded in the Assumption Parish, la Clerk of Courts
Office, Dated March 1, 1848, states that Paul Olivier, at his death,
owned property on Grand Bayou and on Bayou La Fourche. The land was
valued at $4250.00. His household furnishings were valued at $2810.00.
and various other household articles were valued at $2950.00. Twenty
three of his slaves were sold to settle is estate, they sold for
$10,701.00. His total estate was valued at $20,711.00. His succession
records stated that Paul Olivier was a resident of Brusle St. martin.
The monetary figures shown in his succession were huge amounts for that
date in time, telling researchers that Paul Olivier was a wealthy
southern planter.
Slave Sale, Assumption parish, La Court House Records Between: Olivier
LeBlanc and Arcine Babin March 22, 1843
Before the Notary Andre LeBlanc, appeared Olivier LeBlanc of Assumption
Parish and Arcine Babin also of Assumption Parish. Olivier LeBlanc sells
to Arcine Babin a Negro slave named Valsin, who is well known by the
acquirer. Arcine Babin pays 500 piasters for the young slave.
Madelaine Breaux LeBlanc, wife of Olivier LeBlanc, authorized and
assisted by her husband, declares that she wishes to give incontestable
title to the slave sold by her husband. She renounces all her rights and
mortgages that the law of the State of La accords her husband on the
goods he possesses. There is a mortgage on the slave at the Branch Bank
of the Canal of Donaldsonville, La. Olivier LeBlanc further furnishes to
Arcine Babine the signed security of his son, Achille LeBlanc.
